Courseware Modules:

Module 1: Beginning the Year Successfully - The developmental needs of new teachers typically change during the first year of teaching. In the initial stages, teachers are setting up and managing classrooms, establishing procedures and communicating with parents. This module provides resources that address these needs and activities, as well as opportunities to set goals for a successful school year.

Module 2: Creating Positive Interactions with Students and Parents - A broader understanding of personality types and student behaviors that enhance classroom management is explored in this module using the Array Interaction Model. New teachers learn how to reinforce positive interaction styles in four personality types, as well as ways to manage and document home communications and self-assessment needs.

Module 3: Balancing Teacher Stress - Effective teachers quickly develop good management skills to help manage student behavior, time, materials and communications. This module explores stress management so they learn to balance stress while finding new opportunities for growth and improving student achievement.

Module 4: Developing Corrective Discipline Strategies - The Corrective Management Plan describes a process teachers can use to redirect students to positive behavior and help them become self-managed. Violations of school/district policies and support resources outside of the classroom environment are also discussed.

Module 5: Accommodating Student Differences - Meeting individual student needs is one of the most challenging areas of teaching. It is addressed in this module by helping new teachers learn to identify various types of needs and develop strategies to build on student strengths.

Module 6: Understanding Standards for Teachers - As new teachers progress beyond the point of day-to-day survival, they can begin to fine tune their performance and plan for professional growth, using teaching standards to examine their effectiveness and other evaluation criteria used in their school districts.

Module 7: Celebrating BEST Practices in Teaching - Beginning teachers examine what constitutes a best practice by looking at practices of positive impact on students, classroom and/or teaching. Includes tips on keeping a reference log and guides for creating new implementation plans.

Module 8: Closing Down the School Year - A meaningful experience for both teachers and students. This module includes reflective activities that help them self-assess and celebrate their teaching experience and develop a professional growth plan for the upcoming school year.
